CHENEY— The Blackhawks will lean on six returning players as the team looks to improve on its third-place finish in the 2021 GSL standings. The squad finished 5-7 in league play and was 6-7 overall.
Returning players to the lineup are Pyper Cagle, Maddie McDowell, Tatum Sloan, CC Morton, Sedona Ericson and Ashynn Scott.
“The strength of out team this year is we return a complete infield,” coach Gary Blake said. “Our weak point is in out outfield as we lost two of our three starters.”
Blake said the team is also a bit thin at the mound, but still thinks the Blackhawks will compete well this season.
“I like our chances this year,” he said. “I think we’ll do well if we can develop a second starter in our rotation.”
The 2021-22 season kicks off with two nonleague games on the road against Kennewick and Eastmont High School. Cheney opens league play at home against Lewis & Clark on Monday, March 21. The first pitch is at 4 p.m.
