CHENEY – Rylan Bergersen led five Eagles in double digits scoring 16 points in a 75-67 win over Big Sky Conference top seed Weber State Feb. 10.
Eastern took an early 5-1 lead on a couple of free throws from Linton Acliese and a Bergersen three-pointer and then widened the gap to 22-10 on an Acliese trey six minutes into the contest.
The Wildcats battled back with a 24-9 run to take their first lead of the game, 34-31, with just under a minute to play in the first half. A three-point play by Mason Landdeck knotted it at 34-all. Steele Venters drained a shot from beyond the arc and the Eagles took a 37-34 lead into the locker room at the break.
Eastern opened up the second half with a 6-4 run capped off by an Angelo Allegri fast-break dunk to put the Eastern up 43-38.
The two teams battled back and forth, and with just over seven minutes left, the Wildcats tied the game at 56. Buckets from Koby McEwen and Sisoho Jawara with under four minutes to put Weber State up top 65-60.
The Eagles hanging tough, got a bucket from Bergersen and a three-pointer from Ethan Price and Eastern evened it 65-all with two minutes on the game clock. A long-distance shot from Venters gave the Eagles a 68-65 lead with 1:36 left and the team. Eastern hit another trey and sank four free throws in the waning second to win it, 75-67.
Bergersen led the Eagles with 16 points. He also pulled down three rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Acliese finished the game with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Venters drained 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded four assists.
The win boosted the Eagles to an even 12-12 on the year. Weber State fell to 18-7 with the loss.
