Medical Lake is looking to update its website

MEDICAL LAKE – A new website could be in the works soon for Medical Lake. Mayor Terri Cooper explained the growing need for a fully functional website representing the city during the Feb. 15 council meeting.

Cooper said the project would need funding and asked the council to allocate $8,000 to build it. Maintaining the website and social media platforms would also cost $500 monthly.

“I know how tough it can be to manage that stuff,” said councilman Chad Pritchard. “I’m glad someone will be doing that for us.”

Cooper also spoke about reformatting council meetings to give them a better presentation.

“This is the only time council members hear concerns at the same time,” Cooper said. “This is also the only time members can discuss these topics at the same time.”

Another topic surfacing at the meeting was funding for the mayor to travel to attend meetings out of the area. Since the budget for 2022 is already in place, Cooper asked the council to allocate $2,000 from the general fund to accommodate those needs.

“I think it’s important for the mayor to get out and interact with other mayors,” councilman Art Kulibert said. “Prior to COVID, funds for travel and training were typically in the budget.”

The mayor’s request was pushed to a future meeting so the city staff and council could assess what past monies were set aside for those purposes.

The council meeting came to an abrupt ending when a few attendees disrupted Spokane County Fire District 3 Chief Cody Rohbach’s public safety briefing by making unnecessary comments and blaring sound effects into the sound system.
