Airway Heights considers rebranding options

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – As cities in the West Plains continue to grow, city leaders of Airway Heights continue to look at rebranding options to implement a new website, logo and overall look in general.

City Planner Zachary Becker brought the issue up for council discussion on Feb. 14. The topic was met with mixed reactions.

“This feels like something we’ve already paid for,” said councilman Dave Malet.

Malet said he felt the rebranding and building of a new website occurred within the past several years.

City Manager Albert Tripp told Malet a third party addressed the website, but it wasn’t the complete rebuild proposed at this time.

“There are a lot of good things in this proposal,” councilman Sonny Weathers said. “This will help improve communications between council members, department leaders, and city staff.”

Councilman Davin Perry questioned the ability to maintain the site consistently. He hinted the city should not fund it if it’s not managed correctly.

Perry said the city is already facing staffing issues and adding more technical work to the table could make that worse.

“We have not had a dedicated communications person,” said Tripp. “And we still don’t.”

Tripp briefly mentioned the possibility of implementing some templates that could help the site update as needed.

Mayor Larry Bowman questioned the possibility of developing a mobile app to pair with the website, and the council supported that concept. People utilize different technologies to access information, so implementing those outlets can help the information reach more people.

“The whole idea is to give the public a product they can rely on,” Bowman said.
