The Cheney Blackhawks took both games from Rogers in the inaugural Railroad Rumble on the hardwood at Eastern Washington University Wednesday, Feb. 2. The event honored historical ties between the two railroad communities and is the newest of the Greater Spokane Leagues spirit games.
The first game saw the Cheney Girls come away with a 43-31 win over the Pirates,
Tough defense by the Blackhawks and cold shooting by the Pirates was the story of the opening half.
Sophomore guard Paige Evans was unstoppable from downtown, drilling five consecutive shots from beyond the 19-foot line scoring 15 of Cheney's 20 first-half points.
Up 20-9 to start the third period, the Blackhawks continuing to sizzle, increased their lead by 15 points.
Rogers outscored Cheney, 16-13, in the final period of the contest, but it was too little too late, and the Blackhawks chalked up the "W."
Evans paced the Cheney attack with 17 points, and Macey Richards added 11. Shauna Elliott finished with 7. JaLayna Brown and Sydney Vinning scored 12 each for the Pirates.
Cheney moved to 6-12 with the win. Rogers fell to 1-14.
BOYS
Evan Stinson drained 35 points, Josh Whiteley added 13, and Cheney got past Rogers 64-54 in the second game of the Railroad Rumble.

It was anyone's ball game as Cheney held a slim 46-41 lead early in the fourth period. Rogers narrowed the gap to 46-45 with six minutes to play.
A foul on Stinson and a technical foul called on the Pirates with four minutes on the clock put him at the charity stripe for four shots. Stinson sank three attempts. He and Whiteley then dropped in a bucket each to give the Blackhawks some breathing room, 53-45.
Stinson went three-for-four from 3-point range, hit 10-of-17 shots inside the arc, sank six-of-seven free throws and had eight rebounds in the game. Whiteley added 13 points and 7 assists. Geremiah
