Davenport boys, Reardan girls earn first-round byes
Spokane Valley--The basketball postseason has arrived in the Northeast 2B League, with all 11 boys and girls teams earning their spots in the double-elimination tournament beginning Monday, Feb. 7 and running 12 days until the final round Saturday, Feb. 19. Locally, the Davenport boys finished third in the regular season and earned a first-round bye, while the Reardan girls finished fifth and also received a de facto bye after Chesterton Academy forfeited the tournament.
The Davenport girls and Reardan boys both finished in seventh place and will begin postseason play Monday.
Davenport's boys squad will begin play Thursday, Feb. 10 at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of a first-round matchup between No. 6 St. George's and No. 11 Upper Columbia Academy. A win would send Davenport to the semifinals, while a loss would push the Gorillas into the loser's bracket and one game from elimination.
The Reardan girls will play No. 4 St. George's at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, A win would send Reardan to the semifinals, while a loss pushes the girls into the loser's bracket.
The Davenport girls had a chance to earn the fifth-place finish and first-round bye, but fell to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 45-29 in the regular season finale Saturday. The Gorillas will therefore begin their postseason against No. 10 Northwest Christian Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The winner will take on No. 2 Liberty Thursday.
Other first-round matchups on the girls side include No. 6 LRS against No. 11 Chewelah with the winner taking on No. 3 Kettle Falls and No. 8 UCA against No. 9 Asotin, with the winner taking on No. 1 Colfax.
The Reardan boys finished the regular season with a win against LRS and a loss to St. George's. They'll play No. 10 Chewelah Monday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. The winner will take on No. 2 Colfax in the second round.
Other first-round matchups on the boys side taking place Monday include the aforementioned No. 6 St. George's against No. 11 UCA and No. 8 Kettle Falls against No. 9 Asotin, with the winner taking on No. 1 Liberty. The second round will also feature No. 4 Northwest Christian against No. 5 LRS.
District tournament games, which will be played Feb. 7, 10, 12, 15, 17 and 19, are all at West Valley High School.
