Approval to apply for broadband feasibility funding
AIRWAY HEIGHTS–After serving on Airway Heights City Council for the past 10 years, Doyle Inman was recognized during a Feb. 7 legislative session with an outstanding service award for his contributions and service to the city.
Inman retired from the council this year, leaving a lasting impact on many members and city staff.
“I thought he brought great dialogue and balance to the community,” said Principal Planner Heather Trautman. “I’m going to miss him.”
Councilman Sonny Weathers thanked Inman for his services and stewardship to the community. His words echoed through other council members.
Public Works Director Kevin Anderson told Inman, “One of the things I could always count on is you thinking outside the box.”
Inman thanked everyone for their remarks and made a few statements in return.
“Remember to stick together and work together,” he said, “I appreciate all I could do for the community.”
City business picked up after the recognition, with City Manager Albert Tripp asking the council for authorization to initiate the application process for a $50,000 Community Economic Rehabilitation Broadband grant.
Tripp mentioned specific stipulations in the grant, including language that would require the city to provide $12,500 in funding. This funding will pay for a broadband feasibility study that will address the needs and possible avenues of implementation for broadband services in Airway Heights.
The council unanimously approved his request after a brief discussion.
Hank Bynaker, who has served on the planning commission since April of 2021, was reappointed to position number one in the same capacity.
