Five Liberty wrestlers medal at Tri-County

SPOKANE VALLEY – Five Liberty (Spangle) wrestlers brought home medals Thursday, Dec. 23, from the Tri-County Classic.

Kariyah Strobel brought home gold in the girls 145 pound class as teammates Owen Prince at 132, Ashton Strobel at 152 and Jeshua Cwik at 182 each won silver medals in the boys division. Aaron Roberts captured bronze at boys 195.

Undefeated Kariyah Strobel opened the tournament by pinning Paisley Hall of Hanford in 45 seconds.

In the second round of the tournament, she faced undefeated Alexis Taylor of Tekoa-Rosalia, winning the bout, 12-2.

She wrapped up the tournament by pinning Carmen Hall of Hanford in 4:07 to win gold.

At 132 pounds, Prince opened with four pins – over Elijah Leader of Hanford in 38 seconds, Brenen Ladwig of Freeman in 2:02, over Will Clark of Lakeside in 1:18 and over Colton Mulvaney of Hanford in 56 seconds.

In the bout for first, he lost to Medical Lake's Aden Carl, 10-2.

Strobel, at 152, opened with three pins – over Clinton Zimmerman of Medical Lake in 30 seconds, over Titus Brown of Northwest Christian (Colbert) in 29 seconds and over Kenny Luckick of Mead in 1:25.

In the semifinals, he took a 10-7 decision over Connor Goff of Colville to advance to the finals.

In the championship bout, he lost to undefeated Gabriel Smith of Pullman by pin in 4:11.

At 182, Cwick received a bye in the tournament opener and then pinned Cache Hatch of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in 1:24 and Schylre Stinson of Colville in 1:05.

In the semifinals, he won by decision, 8-3, over Seth Simmons of Mead.

In the championship bout, Cwick fell to Jesse Ramey of Central Valley, 9-7, to finish second.

Roberts opened the 195 pound class with three pins – over Riddek Piat of Hanford in 3:32, Abdel Ibrahim of Central Valley in 41 seconds and Derik Bowlby of Innovation in 13 seconds.

In the semifinals, he was pinned by Riley Phillips of Central Valley in 1:07.

He finished the tournament with two pins in the consolation round, over Keemani Benavides of Mead in 1:11 and Merreck Emerson of Pullman in 25 seconds, to take bronze.

In other Liberty results:

138 – Maddex Strobel opened by pinning Nate Drake of Kettle Falls in 2:28, then lost by decision, 7-2, to Brenden Wright of Mead. He then pinned Carsen Buenzli of Medical Lake in 1:10 and Reilly McManus of Ferris in 3:54. He topped Cody Routh of Reardan, 9-6, to advance to the match for third. In his final bout, Bayden Beard of Central Valley pinned in in 1:48, leaving Strobel in fourth.

145 – Sylus Feltwell received a by before losing by pin to Parker Stinebaugh of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls). IN the consolation rounds, he pinned Benicio Villarreal of Innovation in 43 seconds and topped Tyler VanDeventer of Mead, 13-1. He then pinned Jonathon Thompson of Jenkins (Cheweleah) in 4:02 and won his final bout by major decion over Zander Hoff, 14-6.

145 – Kellen Tee lost two matches, first 15-4 to Tyler Stevens of Cheney and then by pin to Braden Giddens of Mount Spokane in 2:09.

152 – Mark Watson received a bye in the opening match, but was pinned by Ryan Howie of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in 55 seconds and then by Jared Haden of Jenkins (Chewelah) in 2:06.

160 – Clae Holling lost both of his matches, first by pin to Jaivid Naff of Colville in 3:46 and then by a score of 7-3 to teammate Mitchell Lencioni.

160 – Mitchell Lencioni lost his opening match to Tyler Conrath by pin (time not reported) and then topped Ethan Vargas of Hanford by pin (time not reported). In the consolation round, he topped teammate Clae Holling, 7-3, and then pinned Kade Armstrong of Hanford in 1:58. He lost his final match to Dekota Acosta of Jenkins (Chewelah), 12-10.

170 – Zach Voight opened with a bye but was pinned by Riley Jones of Kettel Falls in 1:47 and then by Decon Medeiros of Kettle Falls in 43 seconds.

170 – Lucas Paul opened with a loss by pin to Rylin Pavlin of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) in 1:23 and received a bye in his second match, before being pinned by Andrew Royston of West Valley (Spokane Valley) in 2:43.
