COLFAX - Serveral rural roads are currently blocked due to drifting snow.
State Highways 26, 127 and 194, were among those blocked due to snowdrifts on the highway.
Many other rural roads were closed, too, including some where vehicles were stuck in drifts on the roadway, officials said.
A Tekoa School District vehicle was among those reportedly stuck and abandoned on Warner Road. A fire truck was also stuck on Mullen Road, which connects Dry Creek Road to Hume Road.
Plow crews are working on clearing the drifts, officials said.
The National Weather Service reported that the winter weather is severely affecting the following towns: Potlatch, Rosalia, Clarkston, Plummer, Pomeroy, Colfax, Tekoa, Moscow, Genesee, Alpowa Summit, Uniontown, La Crosse, Pullman and Oakesdale.
The blowing snow has caused delays and closures at schools across the region.
In Whitman County, the Tekoa and Colton districts canceled classes. And Rosalia, Colfax and Oakesdale were running two hours late, as was the Liberty School District in Spangle.
According to the National Weather Service, road conditions won't be getting better anytime soon.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. today and residents and motorists can expect to experience winds of up to 50 mph.
Another 1-3 inches of snow is expected to fall this afternoon, as well, the service reported.
