CHENEY – An Idaho man was arrested for attempting to elude police responding to a fight at an apartment
complex early the morning of Nov. 14.
Alberto R. Arroyo, 18, was arrested for attempting to elude police.
According to a probable cause statement, police responded to a fight in progress at 1090 Betz Road, the Eagle
Point Apartments.
As police arriving at about 2:23 a.m. in front of Building No. 18, witnessed a black passenger car “backing out
of a parking space at a high rate of speed, turning and almost striking a garage,” the probable cause statement said.
The driver of the vehicle quickly sped toward Betz Road, with a man following and waving his arms, the
statement said.
Police decided it wasn’t safe to pursue as the vehicle turned eastbound and ran over the curb, the statement said.
The officer turned his vehicle around and headed toward First Street.
As the officer was backtracking, he saw a different vehicle on Clay Street and initially followed, the statement
said. That’s when the officer spotted a vehicle at an unusual angle, running and with its lights on, parked by a garage
at 1418 Sixth St.
The officer recognized it as the vehicle that fled Eagle Point Apartments, the statement said.
The officer activated his lights, approached the vehicle on foot and opened the door of the car, ordering the
driver out, the statement said.
When the driver, later identified as Arroyo, didn’t comply, the officer took him by the arm, lowered him to the
ground and handcuffed him, the report said.
A search of Arroyo initially turned up a drivers license for Leroy Arroyo, the statement said. But the driver said
it was his brother’s license.
Police subsequently found two additional drivers licenses and other documents establishing the identity of the
driver as Alberto Arroyo, the probable cause statement said. The driver smelled of alcohol.
Police asked in he had his brother’s license so he could purchase alcohol, the document said. But Arroyo said he
was only holding it for his brother who had a previous driving while under the influence charges.
Alberto Arroyo was transported to the Police Department, where he initially requested his mother, but was
allowed to speak to a public defender at about 3:27 a.m., the statement said.
The driver later agreed to blood-alcohol tests, which he failed , the document said.
Police inspecting the driver’s car found “significant damage” to the front and underside, and the driver-side
wheel was broken into pieces, the document said.
A check of Centennial Park also turned up damage believed to have been caused by Arroyo, the document said.
