Bazaars, sales kick off Christmas shopping season

CHENEY – The Christmas shopping season will be ushered into the area following Thanksgiving, with at least three shopping events taking place in Cheney and Medical Lake.

From Nov. 27 to Dec. 4, local businesses will participate in the national shop local event.

Approximately 14 Cheney and 14 Medical Lake businesses are participating by offering various in-store specials.

People who visit the businesses can enjoy discounts on everything from food to clothing.

In addition, the Cheney branch library, 610 First St., and Medical Lake library, 321 E. Herb St., will have a prize drawings in conjunction with the event.

Participants need to go to the library to pick up a “passport,” map and a shopping bag and start shopping at local businesses.

“Small Business Saturday with Spokane County Library District has been such a fun and engaging event, and we look forward to participating every year,” The Mason Jar owner Douglas LaBar said in Cheney. “It gives us a great opportunity to show off our business to locals and new customers as well. It’s a great way to kick off the holiday season.”

“We are excited about this opportunity to engage with the community and fellow business owners for this event.” said Shelley Quigley, owner Roam Roasters coffee house in Medical Lake.

Event participants can get stamps for their passports when they shop.

They can bring their completed passport to the library before 6 p.m. Dec. 4 for a chance to win one of four prizes in each community.

In another event, Cheney United Methodist Church is hosting an online Christmas bazaar through Dec. 4.

The online event includes many handmade and collectible items, officials said. To see what’s available, visit http://www.cheneyumc.org, officials said.
