Letter to the Editor
I am an old lady who walks daily, picks up litter and observes homes and businesses that proudly fly the American flag as I do. Several months ago, I observed a government office and a business with badly tattered flags.
I wrote them asking if they knew that a ragged flag indicated a lack of respect for our country and should be replaced. I believe any Boy Scout troop would probably assist.
The government office, the Cheney Police Department, had anew flag flying within a very short time. The men and women in the department not only protect us, but also respect the symbol of our country.
The business, a local bank, did not act.
Not once, but twice I wrote to the bank regarding the flag’s condition, addressing the letter to the branch manager. I received a letter asking me to open an account, which I did not.
When you’re in Cheney, please look for the tattered flag. Make a call or drop a note to the bank about the flag.
Perhaps numbers may be effective and a new flag will soon fly over the local bank.
