Branch libraries to close for Veterans Day

CHENEY – Spokane County Library District branch libraries will be closed Thursday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

Libraries in Cheney and Medical Lake will both be shuttered for the holiday.

They are expected to reopen on Friday, Nov. 12, for regular business hours.

Cost for natural gas rising

CHENEY – Avista natural gas customers will see a rate increase this month.

According to the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, Avista is raising its natural gas price by 9.98%.

The average ratepayer can expect a monthly bill of $64.04, officials said.

The rate increase stems from a shortage due to federal and gubernatorial COVID-19 mandates.

‘Clean green’ disposal closing for season

CHENEY – Due to capacity constraints and changing weather conditions, the last day to dispose of “clean green” materials at the Cheney Recycling Center yard waste bins will be Monday, Nov. 15.

This seasonal service offered to city utility customers is expected to resume again in the spring.

The recycling center is located at 112 Anderson Road.

Work continues on Geiger roundaout

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – Work on the Geiger Road interchange at Interstate 90 continues this week with concrete, electrical and sign installation at the flightline roundabout.

The southwest leg of the roundabout opened Monday, Nov. 1, officials said. Eastbound Geiger Boulevard traffic is no longer being detoured.
