Varsity teams remain undefeated in league
MEDICAL LAKE – Cardinal runners outpaced both Deer Park and Colville on Oct. 20, ensuring victories for the boys and girls varsity and junior varsity teams.
"This marks our first undefeated season for the girls who are currently ranked No. 2 in the Washington State 1A division," Coach Gene Blankenship said.
The Cardinal girls team defeated Deer Park, 23–38, and Colville, 19–44, during the league meet.
Kayla Ramsey led the way, crossing the finish line at 20:41, Blankenship said.
Jenna Castro finished second for Medical Lake with a time of 21:39.
She was closely followed by Allison Payne finishing at 21:57.
Blankenship said Kylie Roberts, Jasmine Cruz, and Grace Grubaugh would close out the top positions for the Medical Lake varsity runners, and the junior varsity team scored perfectly against both opponents 15-50.
Varsity boys also finished undefeated in league meets after winning this event.
The boys (6-0) were led by Reid Headrick in 16:40.
They outscored Deer Park, 16–45, and Colville, 15–50.
The second finisher for Medical Lake was Connor Palmen, finishing with a time of 17:02.
Aden Carl was third for the team at 19:01.
Other top runners for the Cardinal varsity boys were Hector Gomez, Nakai Ornelas, and Garrett Montney.
The boys junior varsity team finished second in league with a 5-1 record, the coach said.
Junior varsity boys outscored Deer Park, 20–35, and had a perfect score of 15–50 against Colville.
Medical Lake's Competitors of the Meet were awarded to Aden Carl and Micaela Eberhardt, and Cardinal Pins were given to Milan Contreras, Reid Headrick, Jenna Cruz and Kayla Ramsey.
Medical Lake will compete in the district championships Oct. 30 at Chewelah Golf Course.
The coach said this event is the qualifier for state, and the Top 2 teams will advance, in addition to top individual runners.
