Cheney faces Ferris this Friday

Medical Lake travels to Chattaroy to play Rams

CHENEY – The Cheney boys football team will look for its first win of the season this Friday, Oct. 29, as the Blackhawks (0-8) travel to Ferris to take on the Saxons (2-6).

Cheney is coming off a 13-3 loss to the Lewis and Clark Tigers last Friday.

In that game, the Tigers (3-5) drew first blood in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Cheney answered with a field goal in the second quarter to make the score 7-3 at the half.

After the break, Lewis and Clark added 6 more points in their third quarter to take a 13-3 lead.

That was the end of scoring in the game.

Ferris is entering this Friday’s game after being dominated by undefeated Gonzaga Prep, 56-14.

The Bulldogs (8-0) are ranked No. 5 in Class 4A football in the state.

In Class 1A football, the Medical Lake Cardinals (1-5) will also face a top-ranked team when they take the field this Friday night.

Medical Lake travels to Chattaroy to face the Class 1A No. 6-ranked Riverside Rams (7-1).

The Rams are coming into the game on their home field after an Oct. 22 victory over Colville, 21-0.

Both Riverside and Colville (2-6) are in the Northeast 1A league with Medical Lake.

The Cardinals come into this week’s game after losing to the Newport Grizzlies, 47-6, on Oct. 22.

In nearby Spangle, the Liberty Lancers (4-3 in league) are hoping to secure a post-season berth this Friday as they travel to Asotin to play the Panthers (2-5).

The Lancers are currently in the No. 5 spot in the Northeast 2B league, just behind No. 4 Colfax (4-3 in league).

Colfax holds the tie-breaker over the Lancers due to the Bulldogs’ 26-14 win over Liberty on Sept. 24.

However, if the Lancers can top Asotin and if Colfax falls to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna, it’s possible for Liberty to slip into the playoffs.

Kickoff for these games Friday is 7 p.m.
