North 40 store opens on U.S. Highway 2

SPOKANE – North 40 has opened a new store on U.S. Highway 2 between Spokane International Airport and the Airway Heights city limits.

Last week, the new store had a “soft opening” that attracted shoppers seeking ammunition, firearms, outdoor sporting goods and clothing and more.

The new 90,000-square-foot “Spokane West” store at 9646 W. Sunset Highway (U.S. Highway 2) features a fly shop and an indoor archery range.

Store officials have yet to announce a grand opening date.

North 40 also operates stores in Spokane Valley, Omak, Moses Lake and Coeur d’Alene, as well as other cities.

Rosalia hosts Veterans Day ceremony

ROSALIA — A Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Park.

Mayor Lee Root will open the ceremony and Pastor Mike Hill will offer an invocation and be the guest speaker begins. Hill served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years, organizer Pat Voge said.

The Veterans of Foreign War will have a rifle team onsite and play Taps.

Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 588 will lead a flag-retirement ceremony

People can place tattered old flags in the Red Box on the porch at the local branch of the Whitman County Library.

Eastern police receive federal grant

CHENEY – The Eastern Washington University Police Department is receiving $74,890 in federal grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The agency is the only campus police department to receive one of the grants.

The funds can be used to help pay for national accreditation, which local authorities hope will help with hiring and training law enforcement officers for the campus.

Secretary of State Wyman steps down

OLYMPIA – Secretary of State Kim Wyman will resign her post to take a new job in Washington, D.C. at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Her resignation is effective Nov. 19.

Wyman, a Republican, has served as Secretary of State since 2013.

Following her resignation, Gov. Jay Inslee will appoint a Secretary of State until the November 2022 general election.
