Blackhawks fall to Central Valley

CHENEY – The Central Valley Bears left Cheney with a 30-7 win Friday, Oct. 14.

The Bears opened strong.

On their first possession, they drove the ball downfield and finished with a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Luke Abshire.

Aiden Labrosse added the point-after to give the Bears a 7-0 lead.

Abshire would end up completing 24-of-36 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown pass on the evening. He added two rushing touchdown, as well.

Cheney struggled on the following drive as defensive pressure from the Bears overpowered the offensive line pushing the Blackhawks back, putting them in bad field position.

Blackhawk quarterback Jakeb Vallance snapped the ball and was hurried.

While trying to leave the pocket, Vallance threw the ball, but was penalized for intentional grounding while in the end zone.

That resulted in a safety for Central Valley, bringing the score to 9-0 halfway through the first quarter.

Vallance ended up completing 10 passes for 58 yards on the night.

Trevor Gravelle would rush for another Bears touchdown midway through the second quarter, and that would be his only run on the night.

Justin Finn would also score for Central Valley, catching a 10-yard pass for a touchdown near the end of the first half.

With the extra point added, the Bears led the game 23-0 going into halftime.

Halfway through the third quarter, Abshire ran for another Central Valley touchdown taking the score to 30-0.

The game slowed considerably as the teams battled back and forth.

As the game waned, Josh Whitely finally got the Blackhawks on the scoreboard, crossing ito the end zone on a 9-yard run.

Whitely ended the game with 10 catches for 58 yard and he also added 37 yards on the ground, including the scoring play at the end of the game.

In the game, Central Valley racked up 250 yards of total offense more than the Blackhawks.

The Bears totaled had 240 yards passing and more than 100 yards on the ground.

Central Valley averaged more than 6 yards per play from scrimmage, while the Blackhawks averaged less than 2.
