Local Business Hosts Fire Education Event

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The Airway Heights Fire Department was on site to help teach kids and families about different alarms and hand out some bags with snacks and information to the guests as well at Tammy Rigsby State Farm Insurance Agency. This event is to help kick off fire safety week which runs from October 3 through 9 and around 50 guests showed up to learn about different sounds of fire safety.

Tammy Rigsby said State Farm donated the "Learn the Sounds of Fire" Kit to the Airway Heights Fire Department.  "Deputy Chief-Fire Marshal Nick Henry and I got together and brainstormed as to how we could distribute this information out to the community in a fun way," Rigsby said, "I think we were successful!  I also purchased 20 Papa Murphy's pizzas to give out to the first 20 families."

"This year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety", works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe," said Nick Henry Deputy Chief Fire Marshal for the Airway Heights Fire Department.

He said knowing the difference can save people's homes and lives and said it is extremely important to have a plan that is well practiced and ready to put in action.
