History & Tea event

CHENEY – The city Parks and Recreation Department is offering another “Tea and History” program series with the Cheney Historical Museum’s Joan Mamanakis.

Starting in October, the once a month virtual presentation will highlight community history through a well-researched, multi-media presentation, with the bonus of tea and scones, officials said. There are currently four presentations scheduled throughout the fall and winter:

· Oct. 6 – Becoming Cheney: Settlers Come West

· Nov. 3 – Cheney as County Seat: A Tale of Two Steals

· Dec. 1 – History of the Early Normal School

· Jan. 12 – Women “Civilizing” Cheney

The Mason Jar tea package contains one tea bag, a scone, jam, and clotted cream, and can be picked up at the Wren Pierson Community Center the day before each event.

There is a fee to participate.

“I encourage people to ask questions or add to the story,” Mamanakis said. “I want people to join us for an informal, fun, and informative look at our local history.”
