AIRWAY HEIGHTS – The City Council approved the design scope for future construction projects in their July 6 meeting. One will take place on 10th Avenue from Garfield to Hayford. The other will be a pedestrian crossing beacon on Hayford at 7th and 9th avenue.
The city was able to secure a Transportation Improvement Board grant for work on the 10th Avenue project. So far, T-O Engineers have been employed to work on the consulting for the project, handling jobs such as project management, geotechnical services and roadway designs. They will be supported by Parametrix, GeoEngineers, Epic Land Solutions, Plateau Archeological Investigations and Big Sky Public Relations.
The project itself is an extension of 10th Avenue that will add around 2,800 new feet of road and connect to Hayford Road. Turn lanes will be built at the intersections and a new traffic signal will be installed at Hayford. Along with the grant, the city and the Kalispel Tribe of Indians will be contributing to the project. Construction is predicted to begin in 2022.
The city council approved the consultant scope at their meeting.
They also looked at the scope of work for a rectangular rapid flashing beacon pedestrian crossing at the intersection on Ninth Avenue and Hayford Road. Hayford is a major traffic collector due to the presence Northern Quest Casino. Multiple other projects are taking place on the road.
In this instance, the city hopes to increase the safety of pedestrians. The council approved the consultant design scope at their meeting.
