Cheney Rodeo underway

Ritzville's Karla Gust to compete in Barrel Racing tonight

CHENEY - Rodeo action got underway this afternoon, Friday, July 9, with matinee slack competitions in Tie-Down Roping and Barrel Racing.

Slack is offered when too many competitors enter into an event for the main rodeo performances.

Tie-Down competitors in slack included:

• Travis James of Colville

• Brett Hale of Tenino

• Kass Kayser of Ellensburg

• Jeff Coelho of Echo, Ore.

• Augie Robinson of Nampa, Idaho

• Riley Carel of Enumclaw

Barrel Racing entries included:

• Darcie LaPier of Newberg, Ore.

• Mary Shae Thomas of Hermiston, Ore.

• Josie Goodrich of Stanfield, Ore.

• Maddi Stoltman of Ellensburg

• Camille Morris of Mount Vernon

• Crystal Beam of Hood River, Ore.

Times and results were expected to be posted before tonight's evening performance.

The Friday night performance is expected to start at 7:10 ight with grand entry.

Several area cowboys and cowgirls are on tonight's ticket, including:

• Cheyanne Gleave of Medical Lake will compete in Ladies Breakaway Roping

• Karla Gust of Ritzville will compete in Barrel Racing

• Cooper Mills of St. John is entered in Tie-Down Roping

• Justin Resseman of Colbert is in Steer Wrestling, often called "bulldoggin'"
