Avista power outage planned in Sprague, surrounding area

SPOKANE — Approximately 460 Avista electric customers in Sprague and the surrounding area will experience a planned power outage on Thursday, July 8. The planned outage will begin at 10 p.m. and end at 4 a.m. on Friday, July 9. No road closures are expected during this outage.

During this time, Avista crews will perform maintenance to their Sprague substation, located north of Interstate 90 on Doerschlag Road approximately nine miles west of Sprague. The routine maintenance will increase reliability and reduce future outages in the area.

“To limit customer impact and avoid a disruption of service during the heat of the day, when possible, we conduct planned maintenance during the evening hours,” Ian Eccles, manager of electric operations in Othello and the surrounding area, said. “Maintaining our equipment is essential to delivering safe and reliable service to our customers. We appreciate your patience and we are committed to restoring your power as quickly and safely as possible.”

Avista communications manager David Vowels said the work is related to the replacement of electrical equipment within the substation.

“In this case, crews are replacing equipment that has surpassed its useful life,” Vowels said. “We routinely perform maintenance and upgrades to our equipment for increased reliability and safety.”

Avista customer service representatives have a variety of resources and information available to aid customers in need. Customers who have questions or concerns can contact Avista at 800-227-9187 for assistance and reference outage number 1266685.
