MEDICAL LAKE — After weaving together a six-game winning streak to nail down the No. 3 seed in the 2021 Northeast A League tournament the door quickly slammed shut for Medical Lake’s girls last week.
Plagued on both nights by poor field goal shooting the Cardinals lost twice, 42-33 at Deer Park (June 18) and 50-41 against Colville (June 19).
“We struggled with shooting only 22%,” head coach Kyle Lundberg wrote in an email regarding the Deer Park game. If there was a defining time in the contest it may have been the second quarter were the Stags (10-2) outscored the Cards 14-6 to lead 21-14 at the break.
Ellie Acord led ML scorers with 11 points while Emma Maxwell added eight as the pair of seniors concluded their high school careers.
Medical Lake (9-5) had even a worse night finding the basket against Colville (6-7) shooting 21% in a game that just slowly slipped out of reach. Charde Luat and Maxwell each scored 11 for the Cardinals.
“I was very happy with our record,” Lundberg said. ”I truly believe our girls bonded really quickly and built great chemistry on and off the court due to the leadership of our seniors Ellie Acord and Emma Maxwell.”
