After a season highlighted by a qualifier to the finals of the NCAA Championships and the shattering of a school record, the Eastern Washington University track and field program handed out 2020-21 team awards June 2.
A total of 22 student-athletes were honored, including eight selected as Eagle co-captains for the 2021-22 season.
For the men, Big Sky 100-meter champion Joe Gauthier was the male recipient of the “Top Gun” award from track and field and will return as one of the eight team co-captains. Throwers Vernice Keyes and Colton Kautz will also be co-captains and earned co-most improved honors.
Record-breaking hurdler Parker Bowden won the team’s coaches award after a season in which he won the Big Sky Conference title in the 110-meter high hurdles.
Pole vaulter Katrina Terry – the Big Sky champion in that event -- won two team awards as co-most improved and the female winner of the “Top Gun” award for track and field competitors. The final double recipient for the women was hurdler Alyssa Hoffman, who will be a 2021-22 co-captain and was co-most improved.
