Barriere, Smith, Harrison earn MVP awards for Eagles

Six Eastern Washington University football players — as well as the entire team — have been given honors for their performances during the 2020-21 football season.

For the second-straight year, the Offensive MVP was quarterback Eric Barriere and kicker Seth Harrison earned repeat honors as Special Team MVP. The Defensive MVP honor went to safety Anthany Smith.

In addition, the Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year was quarterback Trey Turner and winning on defense was linebacker Ahmani Williams. The Pat Roberts Award for achieving academic and athletic excellence went to linebacker Ty Graham, and the entire team was recognized as the Golden EKG (Eagle Kind of Guy) recipient for their resilience during the season impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

After a winter/spring run to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, the Eagles ended the 2020-21 season ranked No. 10 in the final Stats Perform Top 25 poll with a 5-2 record after a 42-20 loss to North Dakota State in first round of the NCAA Division I playoffs.

Eastern has a quick turnaround for the fall 2021 season. The Eagles are scheduled to open the 2021 campaign on Sept. 2 at UNLV, with the home opener Sept. 11 vs. Central Washington.
