More than 2 file for City Council, School Board seats
CHENEY — Filing week produced only two races that will be contested in the Aug. 3 primary election
The battle for Cheney City Council Position No. 3 is the most contested race in southern Spokane County, with five candidates entering the political fray to fill a seat being vacated by John Taves.
Justin Amyot, Tim Gainer, Mark Posthuma, Ryan Delany and Jacquelyn Belock all filed for the seat last week.
Gainer ran for the Postion No.1 seat in 2017, but lost to Paul Schmidt, 42.1% to 57.9%.
Schmidt is unopposed in his incumbency for the Position No. 1 seat this year.
The second most contested race of the primary will be the battle for the District No. 2 seat on the Cheney School Board.
In that race, Zacharay Zorrozua and Chad Smith are challenging incumbent Suzanne G. Dolle.
Dolle ran unopposed for the seat in 2017 and received 3,764 votes.
Only the Top 2 in each race will advance to the Nov. 2 general election.
Most races in the southern part of the county had only one or two candidates file. In those races, they will all advance to the general election.
