CHENEY — Cheney High School officials have released the names of the PACE (Partners in Advancing Character Education) Students of the Month for May. The PACE month character trait for May is courage.
The students are Caitlin Cunningham, Makenzie Johnson, Wesley Nicol, CJ Knapp, Rebekah Aamodt, Shyanne Wofford, Dmetri Strait, Ryann Robbins, Taylor Devlin, Isaiah Martin, Lore’ena Bush, Raven Stone, Lorelei Johnson-Harboe, Jessica Johnson, Terrence Yu, Max Reed and Tailasha Bear.
PACE began in 2009 in Spokane Valley and the Central Valley School District to promote the importance of good character through partnerships with schools, businesses, public agencies, residents, faith-based organizations and community service groups. Working from a common list of monthly character traits, partners promote and integrate each trait into the regular activities of the organization.
The idea for a West Plains Chapter of PACE came to fruition in 2013 as a result of collaborative efforts between Cheney Public Schools, Medical Lake School District and the West Plains Chamber of Commerce. In 2017, a PACE Schools of Character initiative was launched, with Windsor Elementary in Cheney the first recipient of this honor.
