Airmen visit Medical Lake students

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE – More than 500 Medical Lake middle and high school students participated in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics event coordinated by airmen May 21.

Fairchild airmen showed students how they use math, science, engineering and technology in their everyday positions at the Air Force base.

“This was a great opportunity for Fairchild Air Force Base to serve the Medical Lake School District, 92nd Air Refueling Wing spokesman Steve McMullen said. “We’re thankful the staff here were excited to host us and continue building our amazing relationship with the community.”

Several Air Force families live in the Medical Lake community, as well as Cheney and Airway Heights.

During the program, students interacted with airmen and watched a Bell UH-1N Twin Huey helicopter fly over the school.

The aircraft is part of the 36th Rescue Squadron at the base.

Pupils also learned about 92nd Bioenvironmental Engineering equipment and “bomb suit,” as well as robots used to handle explosives.

“We are very proud to have been able to showcase what Team Fairchild brings,” 92nd Air Refueling Squadron Chief of Readiness Capt. Troy Dennis said.
