Cardinal competitors rack up PRs in season finale

MEDICAL LAKE — Medical Lake track teams concluded their 2021 season scoring convincing Northeast A League victories May 12 against Riverside. The girls breezed 116-26 while the boys came away 89-50 winners.

Distance runner Allison Payne earned special praise from head coach Gene Blankenship following her wins in both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter events. “She’s just now starting to come back and we’re looking to do really well in cross country and she’s a key,” Blankenship said.

Payne clocked a 6 minute, 10.80 second time — a personal record — in the 1,600 and 13.15:78 in the 3,200, good for a season record.

Kayla Ramsey’s 2.26:04 time in the 800 established a new personal record for the sophomore.

Chiche Okemgbo turned in a 29-foot, 9-inch shot put toss and Amblessed Okemgbo’s 120-5 in the discus were both PRs. Kiyah Hatcher added a PR with her 4-10 high jump ad did Jenna Castro’s 7-6 in the pole vault. Sophie Salinas-Sanders’ 16-9.25 was a long jump PR.

Notable boys’ bests included Eli Trout’s 25.82 time in the 200-meters. Quintin Collins 4.37:28 was a personal best in the 1,600, as was Benjamin Henry’s 10.14:94 in the 3,200.

Elijah Scott’s 17.86 in the 110 hurdles and Colton Ellis in both shot put (44-6) and discus (142-6) were his bests this season.
