Cheney soccer upsets Mead for second GSL win

CHENEY — The Blackhawks soccer team returned to the win column, notching a victory over visiting Mead on Monday, May 3. The baseball team is still searching for that elusive break, losing three games including two to Greater Spokane League leading Gonzaga Prep.

The good news for Cheney is it managed to score against the Bullpups. The Blackhawks Jamel Taudin-Chabot had two hits, including a double as Cheney three runs on eight hits in the 13-3 loss on April 30 at G-Prep on April 30.

At home on April 29, the Blackhawks managed just three singles in the 8-1 loss, with James Whiteley going 1 for 3 and Justin Ward scoring Cheney’s only run. April 27, Central Valley’s Michael Schwartz pitched a no-hitter against the Blackhawks, striking out 13 and walking one.

Cheney drops to 0-8 in the GSL with four games remaining, home-away series with University May 4 and 6 and Mt. Spokane May 7 and 11.

Soccer

The Blackhawks lost a pair of games, 3-0 to G-Prep on April 26 and 2-0 to Ferris on April 28, but earned their second win of the year by knocking off previously unbeaten and GSL second-place Mead 2-0 on May 3. No results were available for the Bullpups match, but in the match with the Saxons, Ferris out shot Cheney 13-11 with sophomore Austin Benson making six saves in goal.

Against Mead, the Blackhawks got goals from Carson Fisk and Dawson Heuett, with Heuett assisting on Fisk’s goal. Cheney outshot the visiting Panthers 9-7, with goalkeeper Jackson Reagan making seven saves.
