Rose Skin Studio: a transforming place for beauty

CHENEY — Master esthetician Liz Deck opened Rose Skin Studio in January 2021, intending to help Cheney residents feel more confident and beautiful in their own skin.

Deck got married straight out of high school, subsequently moving to various states for her husband’s work. She would find a job wherever they moved, but had no direction or life path, and ended up getting divorced.

After that, she moved to Spokane and started searching for a passion. Deck briefly considered becoming an ultrasound technician, but didn’t feel it was the right fit.

She saw a reference to esthetics, but had never felt connected to the beauty world. Deck thought she couldn’t belong in esthetics if she had never been a “beauty girl” in that sense.

Eventually Deck realized that her perception of herself as a “beauty girl” didn’t matter. She could learn about taking care of her skin better and go from there.

“You can do it your own way,” Deck said. “And that’s what I love about it because I’m not like everyone else… I’m not like any other esthetician, they’re all different.”

Rose Skin Studio is open Sunday–Wednesday. Deck offers eyebrow, leg, face, back, chest and arm waxes. She also offers lash lifts and a variety of facials.

The red rose facial is a standard facial, good for just about anyone. The yellow rose facial is a more in-depth European-style facial, extending to the decolletage. It’s also personalized to each customer’s individual skin type, with different products and elements included accordingly.

The last facial she offers is the back facial, which is a red rose facial done on your back with massage elements. Deck recommends this for anyone with back acne, an extra dry/oily back, or just a sore back.

Deck offers two forms of manual exfoliation, dermaplaning and microdermabrasion. Both are painless processes of scraping off the outer layer of skin and its imperfections, similar to face scrubs. The difference between the two is how the skin is scraped off and the technique used.

Dermaplaning is more like pulling the skin out, guided with a tiny version of a scalpel. Microdermabrasion is more like pushing the skin out naturally.

The last service Deck offers is microneedling, or collagen induction, a form of skin repair. Microneedling is done with a bunch of tiny needles, poked into your skin, creating new and better collagen. This can be painful depending on the depth, but Deck offers numbing cream as well. Microneedling is great for acne scars and rough skin, and is also a wrinkle preventative in younger skin. The full process can take around six months.

Deck received her training and certification from Studio Beauty School. She co-owns the space with fellow master esthetician Heather Henderson of Glow and Behold Esthetics.

The two estheticians had been looking for a space around Spokane that wasn’t in the city itself. There’s a surplus of estheticians in Spokane, and they wanted to venture out of the city anyway. When Henderson found the space 1010 1st St., Suite A in Cheney, Deck was more than happy with it.

The studio is focused on relaxation and comfortability.

“I love making people feel more confident in their skin because that’s what I really needed as a young woman, I really needed that from myself and from other people,” Deck said. “I feel like giving that back to people is really making that full circle”

Deck recommends that new clients come in prepared to ask every question they think of. She says with skin care, there’s always a place to start.

“Everyone has skin problems, literally everyone,” Deck said. “So you can always come in, get the right diagnosis, and treat it.”

“Once I was getting myself out of my unhealthy situation, I really started blossoming into a beautiful woman,” Deck said. “Not meaning on the outside exactly but learning how to be a healthy person in every single way that I could… that really took my skin, took my brain, took my body to a way better position.”
