Cheney, Medical Lake students named Spokane Scholars

WEST PLAINS — The Spokane Scholars Foundation honored 156 area students as Spokane Scholars at the organization’s 29th annual awards banquet, held virtually April 19.

Of those 156, 24 were awarded a total of $60,000, with four selected award recipients in six categories: English, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and World Languages.

While not financial award recipients, 12 West Plains students were selected to be Spokane Scholars, and are listed below.

The Spokane Scholars Foundation is dedicated to recognizing the exceptional academic achievement of high school seniors from the Spokane Area. Students complete an application following selection in one of the six content areas by their high school principal, counselor or teachers. Three judges for each category review the applications to determine the four award recipients in each content area.

All 156 scholars will receive a special box in the mail that includes a Spokane Scholars Foundation Medallion of Academic Achievement and certificate along with a congratulatory letter from U.S. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers of the 5th District of Washington, a Spokane Scholars Foundation face mask and Spokandy chocolates.
