Women arrested after crashing into Four Lakes gas pump

Also threatened to light it on fire

FOUR LAKES -- A woman who crashed into a gas pump in Four Lakes, threatened to light it on fire and then steal a Cheney Police Department cruiser has been arrested.

According to a report from KHQ News, 44-year-old Pearl Shamara is facing multiple charges tonight after Spokane County Sheriff's Office deputies say she stole a truck from a Spokane dealership earlier in the afternoon, Feb. 12, then led police on a short chase which was subsequently terminated. Around 4 p.m., police responded to a report of a woman who had crashed a truck into a pump at the gas station/convenience store in Four Lakes near Interstate 90.

The woman, later identified as Shamara crashed into the pump, backed up and struck it again. Then, armed with a knife, deputies say she ran into the convenience store, stole several lighters and threatened employees with lighting the pumps on fire.

Video shows her attempting to do this, but because the pumps had been damaged the emergency shutoff automatically prevented gas from spilling and being ignited. Deputies said Shamara then locked herself in the truck and refused to come out. After officers fired a beanbag round through a window into the truck, she emerged, ran to a Cheney police vehicle in an apparent attempt to steal it, but was prevented from doing so after an officer was able to get his rifle in the door.

Shamara was then safely apprehended and taken into custody. She was transported to a nearby medical facility as precautionary measure and will be booked into Spokane County jail after release.
