CHENEY – School district officials have announced the resumption of student meal pickups that include several updates from Nutrition Services.
According to a news release, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended waivers to provide free meals to all students through June 2021. The extension allows Cheney Public Schools to continue its free meals program for all youth ages 1 – 18 for the remainder of the 2020 – 2021 school year.
District officials remind participants that Monday, Jan. 18, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and there will be no meal service that day. Meal service will resume Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Finally, the Mid-winter Break Day is Friday, Jan. 29, and therefore a three-day meal bag will be distributed on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Student meals are made available three days a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monday and Wednesday meals include two breakfasts, two lunches and four milks each. Friday meals include one breakfast, one lunch and two milks. Adjustments will be made for weeks with holidays or non-school days.
When picking up meals at the locations, please adhere to mask and six-foot physical distance guidance. Families may pick up meals for students at no charge until winter break.
Students do not need to be present to receive a meal. Students receiving in-person learning will be fed in the classroom(s).
