EWU unveils 11 game Fall 2021 football schedule

CHENEY-If Eastern Washington University manages to fulfill all Eagle fans' ultimate dream and win two national championships in the same calendar year, it will have played over 20 games in the year 2021. EWU unveiled its 11-game regular season fall 2021 schedule, as the Big Sky Conference prepares for a hopeful spring schedule that would begin in late February.

Notably, EWU won't have a chance at the rival Montana Grizzlies next fall, but will host conference foes Portland State, Southern Utah, Sacramento State and Idaho State, the latter of which is the regular season finale.

The Eagles travel to play two of its other main rivals, with games scheduled at Montana State and Idaho. Other conference road games will occur at Cal Poly and Northern Arizona.

EWU's three-game nonconference season opens at brand-new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home of the NFL's Raiders, on Sept. 2. The Eagles will take on UNLV of the Mountain West Conference in the Sin City to open the season on a rare Thursday game for the red turfers.

The Eagles' only home game during non-conference is against Central Washington, which will make the two-hour trek from Ellensburg for the first time since 2018, when EWU knocked off the Division II foe convincingly, 58-13. EWU and CWU also played in 2010 at Qwest Field in Seattle. The eventual national champion Eagles won that matchup 35-32.

Eastern's other nonconference game is a road matchup at Western Illinois out of the Missouri Valley Conference. The two teams were scheduled to play this fall, before the fall schedule was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

EWU's six-game, conference-only spring 2021 schedule includes home games against Montana, Idaho and Cal Poly, and road games at Portland State, Montana State and UC Davis.

It is not yet known whether fans will be allowed into Roos Field for either season scheduled in 2021.
