Discover creative, entertaining, informative programs in the new year

SPOKANE COUNTY – The Library District is offering programs in January that help express one’s creative side, explore entertaining games and online adventures and stay informed or learn new skills.

Kids and families will see some of their favorite librarians in two programs in January, “Evening Storytime Online,” on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and “Building with Books: A LEGO Storytime,” Tuesdays at 4 p.m. In “Online Gaming: Among Us,” on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m., kids in grades 6–12 try to thwart the impostor. The district’s resident artist Hayward Cheesborough teaches kids ages 12 and up how to make a personalized bookmark in “Resident Artist: TextSTYLE” on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 12 p.m.

For adults, start the new year with the “Virtual Boggle Tournament” on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. and continue with “Online Trivia: Schitt’s Creek” on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 6:30 p.m. In “Creativebug: Crochet Sampler: A Daily Practice,” view video lessons to learn different crochet stitch styles and then join the kick-off meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. Cheesborough, shares how to make face masks in “Resident Artist: Thinking Outside the Cloth” on Sunday, Ja. 24, at 2 p.m. In “Tea Blending with Brambleberry Cottage,” learn how to blend flavorful tea on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m.

“Simple Steps for Starting Your Business” is taught by SCORE business experts on Wednesday, Jan. 20 beginning at noon. Learn about clean wood stove burning during the “Burn Smart, Burn Safe” webinar on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. And take the guesswork out of Medicare in the district’s Medicare 101 session on Monday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m.

The district offers free STARS classes for childcare providers, teachers and parents. The online STARS class “Best Picture Books of 2020” is Saturday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m.

Finally, no matter your age, district staff hope individuals will be part of February’s “Virtual Art Show.” Submissions start on Friday, Jan. 1. The theme will be images of your original artwork and creations representing 2020 or your hopes for 2021.
