Outreach Center Christmas gifts for kids sign up underway

CHENEY – Sign up for the annual Christmas Gifts for Cheney Kids is underway.

Cheney Outreach Center’s holiday gift drive will look very different this year as, due to Covid-19 restrictions, no donations boxes will be set up at local businesses. Instead, the Center will only be accepting monetary donations.

Checks clearly marked “Xmas Gifts for Kids” should be mailed to Cheney Outreach Center, P.O. Box 444, Cheney WA 99004. Last year, the community’s generosity enabled Outreach to provide gifts for 141 children.

Outreach is currently signing up families that need help providing gifts for their kids this holiday season. The sign up runs through Dec. 9, and can be done at the Center, located at 616 3rd St. in the lower portion of the Wren Pierson Community Center.

Documents required as signup are a photo identification for all adults in the household, Social Security cards for everyone in the household, proof of address and proof of all income. Those completing the paperwork will also eligible to use the Cheney Food Bank resources, help with their children’s recreational activity fees and assistance with energy bills.

Cheney Outreach Center’s hours of operation are Mondays from 4 – 6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more information, call 509-235-8900.

Additionally, parents can send a special gift to their child this year with a letter from Santa Claus – straight from his workshop at the North Pole. Contact Cheney Parks and Recreation Department at 509-498-9250 to find out how to add a child’s name to the list, with letters scheduled to be mail sometime in mid-December.
