Breezy conditions, cooler temperatures for the weekend

WEST PLAINS – Forecasters at the National Weather Service predict the week will continue to be dry with seasonally warm temperatures, although potentially strong incoming weather system is likely to bring windy conditions and cooler temperatures this weekend.

Temperatures should be in the high 80s to start the weekend, but could drop into the 70s on Sunday. The biggest impact will be the wind, with gusts estimated between 20-30 miles per hour for most of the region, resulting in choppy lakes and increased risk of fire spread under continued dry conditions.

Air quality should remain good in most areas, except those closest to local large fires. The region will remain on the edge or more dense smoke from fires in Oregon and California for most of the week, although any systems moving in and out of the area could vary the amount of smoke transport from the south.

The 8-14 day forecast from Aug. 31 – Sept. 5 calls for normal to below normal temperatures, with the latter taking place moving further east into Idaho and Western Montana. Below normal precipitation is also expected to continue.
