FBLA students excel at regional conference

Cheney High School’s FBLA Club (Future Business Leaders of America) competed at the 2020 Northeast Regional Winter Conference at the Spokane Valley Assembly of God church in Spokane Valley on Feb. 6. Cheney had 45 of its 48 attending members place in the top six.

As a team, club members placed 96 times in the competition. Students who place top six are eligible to compete at the State Business Leadership Conference in Spokane on April 8-11.

Of the 96 different times that we placed, Cheney had 16 first-place finishes and 14 second-place finishes.

Highlights for Cheney began with seniors JT Gasper and Juliane De Los Santos placing in seven different events. Also having a great conference was senior Dylan Doney who placed five times and freshman Jason Hatfield who placed five times.

First-place finishes went to Tenya Belsby (digital video production), David Christianson (management decision making), Juliane De Los Santos (computer application, database design, word processing), Dylan Doney (management decision making, management information systems, organizational leadership), JT Gasper (electronic career portfolio, spreadsheet), Nia Guest (digital video), Luke Hamberg (management decision, advertising), Jason Hatfield (political science) and Johnathen Jacobsen (graphic design).

Also placing first were Holden McNaul (management information systems), Shane Moore (management information systems), Lucy Nester (personal finance), Jamie Sprague (emerging business issues), Jasmine Sprague (business ethics, emerging business issues) and Finn Syrie (introduction to business).

Qualifiers are headed to the state conference which will be held at the Davenport Grand on April 8-11. Students who place top-four in the state qualify to attend the national conference on June 28-July 3 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

This regional event was attended by 21 different local high schools and had 422 students in attendance.
