CHENEY – The Blackhawks boys varsity basketball team dropped a pair of road games last week, falling in Great Northern League action at Clarkston, 72-34, and in a tight 67-60 loss in non-league play at Greater Spokane League 3A Rogers High School.
Cheney seemed on the verge of earning its third win of the season last Thursday at Rogers, leading 47-36 heading into the fourth quarter where the home Pirates (1-9 GSL, 4-13 overall) rallied for the win. Rogers outscored Cheney 21-13 in the final eight minutes.
Senior Quinsie Goodloe led the Blackhawks in scoring with 16 points, 12 come on four, 3-pointers. Senior Luke Hemenway added 12 for Cheney.
Tuesday at Clarkston saw the Blackhawks fall behind 38-13 at the half to the 11th-ranked Bantams, and could get no closer.
Goodloe led Cheney in scoring with eight points.
Cheney remains in last place in the five-team GNL with a league mark of 1-7, 2-14 overall, but has four games remaining with which to possibly make up some ground.
The Blackhawks will be busy this week with three games in four days, including a Feb. 5 home game with Clarkston that was postponed earlier by weather.
Cheney hosted third-place West Valley (4-5, 8-8) on Tuesday and league-leading Clarkston (8-1, 12-5) on Wednesday.
The Blackhawks travel to fourth-place East Valley (4-5, 7-10) Friday, Feb. 7 and return home to face second-place Pullman (5-4, 9-8) in the regular-season finale Tuesday, Feb. 11.
