Medical Lake city officials voiced their opposition to Spokane’s interest in using Pine Lodge as an all-male offender facility in the event it was closed by the state. Airway Heights also expressed opposition to proposed placement of a similar facility there.

Lots were plated and infrastructure ready and the ribbon cut at the Cheney Industrial Park — all that were needed were tenants.

The city of Cheney received a clean bill of health from state auditors for the second year in a row in an audit that was “nearly flawless.”

The Medical Lake School District’s board of directors voted to add a maintenance and operations levy to the ballot. The amount would remain the same as it had been for the past nine years — $1.71 per $1,000 of assessed value.

Feb. 8, 1990

Cheney was again chosen as the site for one leg of the Washington Trust Cycle Classic that will draw top cyclists to the area for the second year in a row.

The city of Medical Lake launched new color-coded recycle bins behind both City Hall and the library. The bins were provided for free from the Spokane Regional Solid Waste Disposal Project.

Feb. 6, 1980

Rural crime in south and southwest Spokane County increased by 50 percent since 1976, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office data. Most were crimes of “opportunity,” theft and home burglaries.

The Medical Lake Town Council were informed of the procedure they needed to follow to revise the municipality’s classification from a fourth-class town to a non-chartered optional code city.

Lynn Sims was lauded as Medical Lake’s first female police officer.
