CHENEY – The Blackhawks gymnastics team improved its Greater Spokane League record to 3-9 with wins in meet competition Dec. 18 and Jan. 7. In both cases, the wins came over North Central by scores of 94-69 on Dec. 18 and 125-53 on Jan. 7.
Cheney lost 167-94 to Mt. Spokane and 162-94 to Mead on Dec. 18, and 164-125 and 157-125 to Mt. Spokane and Lewis and Clark respectively on Jan. 7.
Head coach Moriah Knowles said junior Lauren O’Callaghan continues to provide most of the placings for the Blackhawks, with other girls beginning to join her. At the Jan. 7 meet, Hanne Schmidt placed eighth on the beam, and Knowles said Sienna Fortune is also moving up in event placings.
Knowles added that senior Faith Shinner is back from an injury and should help the Blackhawks with their post-season ambitions.
“We’re working really hard at making it to regionals as a team this year,” she said.
