Serving the Nation

CHENEY — Pvt. Ian Porter of Cheney recently returned home on leave after completing U.S. Army basic training on Nov. 14, 2019 at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

He began 1 1/2 months of advanced individual training as a motor transport operator on Dec. 1.

Porter took his oath of enlistment on July 3, 2019 and shipped off to basic training the following September for a 3 1/3 year initial enlistment.

“I love driving anything and working on anything with a motor,” Porter said of his military occupational specialty.

Porter attended Cheney High School for four years before obtaining his General Education Certificate in 2018.

He will be returning to Fort Leonard Wood at the end of his leave to complete the remainder of his advanced training before shipping out to his first permanent duty station at Joint Base Lewis McCord.
