Cardinals send eight to state track and field - 2019 sports top 10 year-in-review

MEDICAL LAKE — The high school track and field team sent eight athletes out of District 7 competition to the State 1A track meet at Eastern Washington University this year.

Jaxyn Farmen, Sophie Salinas-Sanders and Mayah Eberhardt led the girls by earning a trip to state in the triple jump and 100-meter races respectively.

The Cardinal boys were led by first-place finishes from Colton Ellis throwing discus and and Ezekiel Lewis in the high jump. Both achieved first places and set PRs.

“Colton (Ellis) had the most amazing PR,” head coach Gene Blankenship said. “He improved his discus throw by 15 feet.”

Second place went to Pedro Sandre in the 200, Nicholas Henry in the 1,600 and Quintin Collins in the 3,200.

Farmen would go on to capture the 1A state triple jump title at the state 1B/2B/1A championships, finishing third in the -long jump and setting the event’s highest mark for the season.

Ellis took fourth in the discus at the championship meet.
