Blackhawk wrestlers take third in tournament

CHENEY — The Blackhawks wrestling squad took third overall at the Eisenhower Cadet Classic in East Valley on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

“We were happy with our finalists,” head coach Jason Connor said, adding that the team scored 20 pins in the tournament. “Everyone contributed to the third-place finish as a team.”

The big wines of the match were William Seeberger, who went 4-0 for first place in the 113-pound weight class with two pins and a decision and one bye.

Dylan Straley also went undefeated in the 145-pound class taking out two opponents by decision and pinning another with a fourth being forfeit.

At 170-pounds, Anthony Aguilera earned a decisive 4-0 by defeating three by pin and one by decision.

Blake Seubert (160) and Jackson Showalter (152) went 3-1, while Hunter Despino (138), Dalton Taylor (160), Elijah Aguilera (170) and Ezra Anderson (182) all went 2-2.

Ian Schwendiman (120), Jase Winner (132), Shane Moore (152) and Jason Inman (220) went 1-2.

Overall, Cheney scored 158.5 team points, trailing slightly behind Zillah with 169.5 points.

The team to beat was Sunnyside, who earned a whopping 230.5 team points at the match to take first place overall.

The wrestling team isn’t scheduled for another meet until Saturday, Jan. 4, when they host the18-team Blackhawk Invitational, followed by the Scabland Scuffle when the Blackhawks go head-to-head with the Medical Lake Cardinals.
