Blackhawks to face CWAC No. 3
CHENEY - The Lady Blackhawks volleyball squad took it to both East Valley and Clarkston in Great Northern League post-season play, beating both in straight sets before going five sets in a loss to Pullman to advance in post-season play.
District post-season play began on Thursday, Oct. 31, in Cheney when the Blackhawks beat the 2-10 Clarkston Bantams 25-22, 25-8, 25-12. Statistics were unavailable for the Clarkston match.
Then it was on to face No. 2 seed East Valley on Saturday, Nov. 2, where the Blackhawks beat the Knights 25-22, 25-18, 25-17. Senior Abby Witt logged 11 kills, junior Sara Graham had 28 assists, Avery Stark 10 digs and two aces. Sophomore Abby Scott, senior Shelby Draper along with Witt and Scott all recorded one block each.
Riding the wave of a four-match winning streak, the Blackhawks faced No. 1 seed Pullman, losing in a hard-fought five-set match 13-25, 25-22, 25-15, 20-25, 15-3.
Witt logged 18 kills against the Greyhounds, while Graham had 29 assists and Draper 3 blocks and 18 digs. Scott and junior Avery Stark each recorded 3 aces.
"Definitely the best volleyball we've played this year," assistant coach April Stark said of the teams post-season play.
The Lady Blackhawks advance to the glue-in match against today's No.3 of the Central Washington Athletic Conference district playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 9. A win will advance the Blackhawks to state play at the Yakima Valley SunDome on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 14 – 15.
Meanwhile, Draper was named to 1st team all-league, while Graham, Stark and Witt placed on the GNL 2nd team.
Head coach Heather Zorrozua was named Coach of the Year.
