Reports of armed individuals turned out to be BB guns
CHENEY -- Two Cheney School District facilities were put in lock down this morning, Nov. 8, over reports of two individuals with weapons on a nearby road.
Superintendent Rob Roettger said they received a call of two young adults along Grove Road who appeared to be armed with rifles. School officials at Windsor Elementary School and Westwood Middle School on nearby Hallett Road went into lock down and contacted law enforcement.
Roettger said the district's school resource officer and Spokane County Sheriff's Office deputies quickly arrived onsite, found the individuals and determined the weapons were BB guns. The situation was resolved within 10 minutes, he added and by 10:15 a.m. the district had issued a message to parents.
"There was never any imminent danger," Roettger added.
Roettger added the lock down measures were precautionary.
