Several organizations and schools will be hosting Veterans Day observances beginning this Thursday in Medical Lake and continuing on Monday, Nov. 11
Airway Heights
VFW Post 3386 will be open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Post members plan to meet at 8 a.m. at Fort George Wright Cemetery on North Government Way and North Elliot Drive at 8 a.m. to place flags on veterans’ graves. A ceremony will take place there at 9 a.m. A ceremony at the Post will take place at 10 a.m.
Cheney
VFW Post 11326 is not planning any local observations as most of the small Post take part in other area ceremonies, President Dan Hillman said. On of those local ceremonies Cheney members will assisting at takes place in Rosalia at Veterans Park at 11 a.m. Cheney’s post is named after Allen and Trudy Mattausch, who both attended Rosalia High School.
Hillman said Cheney has been assisting at this ceremony since 1994.
Cheney’s American Legion Post 72 is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, and has had several activities, with more planned. Those include a Veterans dinner on Saturday, Nov. 9, beginning at 4 p.m. at the post on College Avenue downtown.
Cheney School District
Cheney High School and Westwood Middle School will be holding Veterans Day assemblies on Friday, Nov. 8. Westwood’s assembly takes place from 1:45 – 2:45 p.m. while the high school’s begins at 10 a.m. Westwood is located at 6120 S. Abbott Road.
Medical Lake School District
Medical Lake High School and Medical Lake Middle School are both holding Veterans Day assemblies. The middle school’s takes place on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 1:55 – 2:25 p.m. while the high school has two at 9 and 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8.
Hallett and Michael Anderson elementary schools will also be holding assemblies. Hallett’s takes place from 1:30 – 2:15 p.m. while Michael Anderson’s on Fairchild Air Force Base is from 2:15 – 2:45 p.m.
A Veterans Day band and choir concert will take place Thursday, Nov. 7, at the high school auditorium, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
