Cheney swimmers down Clarkston in non-league meet

CHENEY – The Blackhawks girls swimming team had little difficulty in dispatching Clarkston High School in a combined meet with Pullman last Saturday, Oct. 12. Head coach Jennifer Hochwalt said the meet was non-league, with only Cheney’s competition with the Bantams being scored.

Cheney swept all of the events except the 100-yard breaststroke where they went 1-2-4. Notable performances were Asia Gere in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 2 minutes, 6.28 seconds, Janie Richards in the 500 freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 5:35.44 and the 200-freestyle team of Jade Gere, Asia Gere, Izzy Williams and Richards who turned in a time of 1:45.96 – also a state-qualifying mark.

“The athletes swam really well and we had a few new state cuts and three to four misses,” Hochwalt said.
