Expect gusty winds in southern areas of the Palouse

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern areas of Spokane County.

Moderate rainfall tonight is expected to cause small streams and rivers to rise in southern areas of the county, around Rosalia and in Whitman County, as well as other areas of Southeast Washington.

“Snow levels will rise tonight and ad snow melt run-off to area rivers,” the outlook said, noting residents may notice “moderate rises on mainstem rivers” by Tuesday.

From Tuesday through Sunday, forecasters say winds gusting to 40 mph are possible across the Palouse.

Winds Friday will be sustained between 20-30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph, the outlook said.

Wind speeds will be lower in the Cheney and Ritzville areas, and along the U.S. Highway 395 corridor from Spokane to Pasco, meteorologists say.
